Featured Artist - Ann Capodagli
Most all of my life, I have been involved with the world of art and creativity. Recently retired, I’ve enjoyed 36 years as a Visual Arts instructor
at Fitchburg High School. In 2008 I embarked on a new and exciting adventure. My husband Peter and I opened the Boulder Art Gallery in
downtown Fitchburg. I have been fortunate enough to pursue the artist’s life, first as an art educator and then as a full time working artist and
gallery owner.
As a gallery owner, I have the pleasure of working with wonderfully talented artists of all mediums. They share my enthusiasm and expose me to
their many varied viewpoints and talents. I sincerely enjoy the discussions we have about the basic elements and principles of art and design. I
currently have a working studio at my gallery and participate in local and regional fine art shows and festivals. My work has been exhibited in
juried competitions and galleries and can be viewed at The Boulder Art Gallery, Fitchburg.
My subject matter is diversified and includes still lifes, city/landscapes, flora, nature, local landmarks in and around New England. I work in
several mediums, though primarily in watercolor. Watercolor appeals to me with its special luminous, translucent, and unpredictable qualities. The
spontaneous nature and flexibility of this medium constantly excites me and allows me to express my creativity in a very fulfilling way. The
pigments and water take time to settle and form those pleasing, accidental edges and dreamy washes. Watercolor is a challenging medium that
cannot be forced and sometimes cannot be anticipated by the artist. The unexpected accidents can change your plan in an instance and those are
the elements of surprise that I welcome the most!
Most of my work is done in the studio in a controlled environment; however, I enjoy painting “en plein air” to capture the feel of locations I paint.
Landscape painting draws me in and if there are architectural elements involved, I particularly enjoy the challenge of a perspective focus in my
compositions. My goal is to recreate an image truthfully and beautifully, but using elements and design qualities that present my subject in a new
way. Looking, seeing, designing, painting, Joy!
